Crowns
and Bridges
Why opt for
a full crown as opposed to a veneer or bonding?
If the tooth has had a root canal, is cracked
or broken or there is not enough of the tooth
left in which to place a filling, then a crown
is required.
With this restorative
technique, the tooth is reshaped and then
custom-fitted with a jacket or cap that surrounds
the tooth and ends under the gumline.
A crown can
be used to improve the tooth's appearance,
strengthen a tooth or completely restore it.
If the tooth is missing, then a bridge is
used to replace the missing tooth.
The bridge,
which holds the replacement teeth, is anchored
to the teeth on either side of the gap, which
have been fitted with crowns.
Losing just
a single tooth can start a chain reaction
of problems. Without proper restoration of
your natural bite you can experience shifting
of your remaining teeth, decay, periodontal
disease and even bone loss.
Crowns and
bridges are a long-term solution. Therefore,
they are constructed to be functional and
compatible with the surrounding tissue as
well as aesthetically pleasing.
