Infection
Control
Today, more
than ever, people have questions about the
risk of infection when they visit a health
care practitioner of any kind.
At Next Dimension,
we are as concerned about infection control
as you are and ensure that yours is a safe
and stringently clean dental visit.
We strictly
adhere to the safety and sterilization guidelines
dictated by the Alberta and Canadian Dental
Associations.
The practitioners
and hygienists wear gloves, masks and protective
eyewear as a protective barrier. There are
also disposable plastic barriers that cover
frequently touched areas such as headrests
and chairs, which are changed between patients.
Anything that
goes into the patient's mouth is either used
only once and disposed of, or it is sterilized.
There are two
methods of sterilization.
Heat
sterilization uses an autoclave, or pressurized
'oven', in which instruments and various hand-pieces
are placed. Under pressure, the heated vapour
is able to penetrate the small passages or
spaces which cannot be accessed by other sterilization
methods.
Cold,
or chemical, sterilization is used for some
instruments which would otherwise be destroyed
by the intense heat of an autoclave.
We use filtered
water and water line monitoring is performed
for us by the University of Alberta to ensure
up to date, effective sterilization.
Your
peace of mind is as important to us as your
oral and dental health!
